Drunk Shakespeare was absolutely fantastic. It’s hilarious, unpredictable, ridiculously clever, and easily one of the most entertaining nights we’ve had in Chicago. The cast is incredibly talented. They somehow manage to combine Shakespeare, improv, audience interaction, and complete chaos without ever losing control of the show. Watching one actor get progressively drunk while everyone else tries to keep the story moving is exactly as wonderfully ridiculous as it sounds. What really impressed me was how sharp and quick the performers were. The jokes never stopped, the audience was completely involved, and there were several moments where we were laughing so hard we could barely catch the next line. You absolutely do not need to be a Shakespeare fan to enjoy this. If you know the plays, there are plenty of extra jokes to appreciate, but if your last experience with Shakespeare was being forced to read Romeo and Juliet in high school, you’ll still have an incredible time. Funny, intimate, interactive, slightly inappropriate, and completely unpredictable. Drunk Shakespeare is one of those experiences that feels uniquely Chicago and makes for a perfect night out. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’d go again in a heartbeat, although perhaps Shakespeare himself would have some concerns about what has become of his legacy.
